Guide
Compensation in England and Wales has two parts. General damages pay for the injury itself: a fixed statutory tariff for most road traffic whiplash injuries lasting up to two years, and the Judicial College Guidelines brackets for everything else. Special damages repay your financial losses, such as lost earnings, care, travel and treatment. The total is reduced if you were partly to blame.
Most claims must start within three years of the accident. Read more in our guides to how long a UK claim takes, no win no fee agreements and claiming for whiplash without a solicitor.
